Girls

I started writing this post a while ago but forgot about it until now! I reread it and added some more thoughts.

Sometimes girls drive me nuts. This is probably why when growing up I had more guy friends than girl friends. I don't have any sisters so I've never been used  to that. I was also never used to the pointless drama that we all know occurs. C'mon, we all know it! :)

One thing we were talking about in my Anatomy & Physiology class was girl's 28 day [approx] cycle of hormones. No worries, we're staying scientific here nothing to make you squirm.
We talked about how the hormone, estradiol, peaks around the time when females have their monthly period. Estradiol among other things is a memory enhancer. Biologically instead of remembering the situation, girls often only remember how they felt. So combining those two (along with other things) offers a symptom of what they call PMS, Premenstrual Syndrome. During this time estradiol can enhance your memory but you often only remember how you feel, not what happened. So all of the sudden, you're mad at someone and you really don't know why. We've all experienced it to some extent and it's a trippy thing from what I understand. PMS is real and sometimes it can be a struggle to cope with.

But... some girls use it as an excuse to be rude, grouchy and just down right mean. I've heard stories of girls just going crazy during this time and doing things that are totally uncalled for! I know some probably have it worse than others but we as girls need to learn to control it. As members of the church one of the hardest but important goals is to gain control of our body or in other words, putting off the natural man. The natural man is "a person who chooses to be influenced by the passions, desires, appetites, and senses of the flesh rather than by the promptings of the Holy Spirit" (LDS.org). Although we have hormones for biological reasons we shouldn't let ourselves succumb to them.

Girls, don't lash out at your friends and roommates. Don't get mad at others for no reason. The people around you will start to get sick of it. I've seen it happen. Plus you feel terrible after you've acted that way. Admit it, you know it's true. Learn how to cope with your symptoms by using medicine, vitamins, exercise, meditation etc. If you don't feel good, that's okay! Usually all I want to do is cuddle and watch Disney movies. But one day you will be a mother with kids or a business women with a job in which you need to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner no matter how you feel. Cramps, headaches, aches and pains happen- I'm not saying everyone has to be 100% happy and chipper but don't use this time of the month to be crazy. We need to put off the natural woman and be normal even though there are extra hormones circulating our bodies.

Seriously though, just be nice!
