Halloween Among Other Things

Image
The other day I actually felt like I lived here! When driving to the grocery store.. 1. I didn't have to constantly THINK about where I was going, I actually knew and was comfortable and 2. I didn't feel like every California driver on the road hated me. It's like I've been here long enough that I'm not an out of town newbie and I felt 'accepted'. Hahaha obviously I'm sure that's exactly how they were feeling... yeah.. I VOTED! Yeah,! Amurrica! (Any Bernoski fans reading?) So proud that I remembered to request my absentee ballot. I went grocery shopping this week and the total was less than I expected it to be. Love that feeling! I love having the fridge stocked with fresh fruits, veggies and hard boiled eggs. And I even managed to squeeze in a treat for Dan- a jar of liquid cheese. He has this philosophy that liquid cheese (even from a can) is wayyy better than solid cheese. We're quite opposites on that but he was happy with his surprise.

I killed my phone...

Image
Whoops! Well you see my phone's dead. It's been acting up for a long time now, I've always had problems with it not functioning right. I was trying to take a picture of the awesome cherry pie I made Dan (he loves cherry pie plus it was our two months of being married) and it broke.  My phone went into Bootloader mode. I had to google it too. TERRIBLE picture but you get the point. So we went to the Verizon store the next day and he plugs it in and magically it's all good now. What the heck phone! Haha I'm just glad it was that easy (well kinda, we got lost trying to find the store and it ended up taking so long that we were starving so we just got food) We had Jersey Mike's Subs and it was awesome. The second I walked in it smelled like Port of Subs (where I used to work and my favvv sandwich place). Then I noticed they have a slicer, they slice their own meat and cheese, they have almost the same toppings, they have the 'originals' (lettu

Scripture Reading with Dan

Quite interesting than the normal scripture reading. He switches between accents with out even skipping a beat while I'm hysterically laughing. Tonight went like this. Southern Irish Count Dracula Broken Slow English VERY Southern he even threw in some ya'lls I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Snuggies and Corgis

I'm cold. It's 68 degrees here and that's great because I was missing fall. I swear I have problems regulating my body temperature; I'm either really hot or really cold. Rarely do I fall in the middle. So when it's chilly here, I'm cold. (On a funny note, Dan and I switched sides of the bed again. Now that we don't use the AC I can sleep on the other side and now he can sleep on the side next to the window. So now the window is open AND he has a fan directly ON him. Crazy person.) So Dan and I received tons of blankets as wedding gifts and that's great. What's not great is that they're all in Idaho. We didn't think we'd need them here but luckily I have my penguin snuggie, socks and I did bring some long pants and shirts. Right now I can just HEAR everyone in Rexburg and Utah giving me crap because they have snow. There all saying 68 degrees isn't even cold- I know, I'm a wuss. I will say this, I am SO GLAD I'm not there.

Weekend Perks

Image
I totally forgot to post about what we were up to last weekend. Well I made this delicious dinner. Healthy Spinach Lasagna Rolls Picture from website And that night we watched Warrior on netflix. It was Dan's pick and it started off slow but by the end it was really good and I loved it. Saturday morning Dan went and played tennis with his coworkers then we relaxed and he did homework. We had planned to go see a movie and because he got to pick the night before, he said I could pick for that day. I was between Pitch Perfect and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I eventually picked The Perks of Being a Wallflower. That was a mistake. I hated it . I wouldn't recommend it to anyone . I was so disappointed and it wasn't at all what I was expecting from the trailers. Dan said it was easily the worst movie of all time. I don't think you could pay him enough money to see it again haha. Poor guy, he sat through it anyways. Every review I've seen online raves about

Why Dan is my Man

Image
Oh Dan. The things he puts up with! He is such a wonderful guy :) Sunday night we were casually flipping through the channels and he was keeping tabs on a football game. As he's headed back to the game I caught a glimpse of something and desperately tell him that he needs  to go back. I was delighted to see that the show Too Cute was on Animal Planet. I spent the next half hour cooing, awwing and laughing to tears at the cuteness. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's a show that follows litters of animals (mostly puppies and kitties) for a few weeks after their births. To keep it interesting, the narrorator exaggerates and makes up stories like he knows what the animals are thinking. What really got me going was when they were teaching these German Shepherd puppies how to swim. They put precautionary life jackets on them and they weren't used to the extra weight so they would just walk and fall over. I laughed hysterically! I have SUCH a weak spot for cute a

Things on my Mind

I have a love/hate relationship with grocery shopping. I went on Monday and I did all my meal planning and my list making, I was prepared. I love getting food to be able to make yummy, healthy and delicious meals, but I don't like spending money on it! With an exception of a few items, everything here is more expensive-including food. I wish I could grow all my food in my back yard. On a foody note let me share with you some of the recipes I've tried lately. I'm one of those people who actually makes the food they post on pinterest! Most have turned out pretty darn good. Slow Cooker Cheesy Chicken and Rice The "Best" Brownies  (these are much more like cake but it is darn good cake!) Lemon Rosemary Chicken *Pictures from respective websites* Changing subjects . Because I have some time on my hands being here in Bakersfield this week I decided to really study my patriarchal blessing again. I've done this before but every time I al

I was telling Dan one day that it's so warm outside and I don't have any fall/halloween decorations that it doesn't feel like October and was really sad about it. He told me to go buy decorations but I didn't want to spend the money and the thought of trying to figure out what to buy and to put where stresses me out. I don't have the innate ability to decorate rooms really well. BUT THEN I receive a package from my mom in the mail. She sent me a box full of awesome fall decorations and candy- how awesome in my mom? I know, she's great. I didn't know where to put anything but I think I did okay. This is what she included int he package :) Autumn leaf runner Pumpkins, candles and felt leaves fall placemats This cute bouquet little decorations more leaves :) And now we have plenty of candy too :) perfect! Dan's company gave us tickets to go to the annual California State University dinner that raises money for the
