The Big Decision

Well... you've all been waiting for it

and from previous posts you've read it sounds like we've been debating between

University of Utah

&

Texas A&M

and then I told you we said no thank you to Utah....why?

because a wrench has been thrown into the mix

and because of the wrench we have made our decision

For Grad School we will be attending...

Boise State University

Shocking the world yes?
I know, believe me I know.
I'll explain

When Dan got accepted to Boise State it was originally planned as a back up like I had said before. But a couple weeks ago Dan got an email saying that he had been accepted to a
Graduate Assistantship

What is that you ask? Well, it's AWESOME, that's what it is.

Dan's tuition to get his Masters will be waived
AND
he will have a job on campus [20 hours a week] in which the school will pay us approximately $9,000 for his work [do the math that about $13/hr]

WOW

So we really have been seriously thinking about what would be best to do. We've been weighing cost of moving, schooling and living versus the recruitment, placement and prestige of the school and trying to decide which is more important and what the best decision is. We felt like really, any of those schools would be a good decision, that's why Dan applied to those three!

In the Accounting Profession the most important thing is to pass the CPA Exam. Some states do require you to have a Masters but most just require that you have 150 credit hours to sit for the CPA Exam. Because Dan the Man is so efficient, he is graduating with 121 credits and therefore needs to get his Masters because he needs 30 more credits. If we can get him up to 150 credits, get his masters AND have a job all while saving a bunch of money and NOT having to take out loans... it's kind of a really good deal. We can stay out of debt (even though education is a valid reason to go into debt) and Dan will have a job.

Boise State is not the most prestigious accounting program and Boise isn't a huge city with a ton of growth. Texas A&M, being in Texas, has Dallas, Houston and Austin right there all big cities, all with big firms who recruit out of that college so there's a lot of opportunities to grow there. We were trying to decide if the trade-off to be worth it to be smart financially and work extra hard in networking and finding Dan a good accounting firm to work for.

Therefore, over all we decided that the trade off to save all that money would be worth it. We are going to Boise State and we have faith the God knows our desires and our needs and that He is watching over us. We're trying to make a smart decision and pray that we will be blessed for the decisions we are making. We love Boise and are excited to be there this fall :)
