Graduation!
Brooks has graduated from his DocBand and we are so excited! He outgrew his first one and the doctor left it up to us whether we wanted to keep going or not. We decided to be done and that his head is perfect enough.
We're so happy we made this journey and looking back it seemed like it was short! Our pediatrician noticed Brooks favoring one side at 2 months. We repositioned him for 2 months. At his 4 month appointment she concluded he had Plagiocephaly. We went to Cranial Tech and they were awesome. He had his band for 9 weeks, started when he was 5 months and finished right before he's 7 months. He wore it for 23 hours a day after the initial breaking in period. We went through a bottle of rubbing alcohol cleaning it every night for 9 weeks. It took him a day or two to adjust to it and to adjust without it.
I thought I would miss his helmet, but I don't! It was apart of him for the last 9 weeks and he looked pretty cute in it BUT I really love kissing him and seeing his eyebrows again! We're happy we did it, glad it's over.
BEFORE VS AFTER
Here are his official pictures. These are a lot like ultrasounds in the sense that they don't look like anything if you don't know what you're looking at. The changes we're looking for here can be pretty small visually, but significant medically.
Specifically look at his cheeks. See how one was pudgier than the other? That's a domino effect from where his cranial bones were moving his jaw bones. Now on the right they are much more even. Look at the way his nose sits, his mouth tilts (or use to). From the back angle look how his ears were uneven. Overall in head shape his head used to be very wide especially over his ears.
The big thing you'll notice here is if you follow the line on his stocking to the back of his head you'll see that it popped out. Yes! That's what we were hoping for! Before he had a sloping forehead. The angle isn't as significant anymore.
Here where I think it's easiest to see the change, especially in the greyscale. On top you can see where it used to bulge over his ears. On the bottom you can see his ears and jaw are better aligned and how even the cranial base is.
Official numbers. Technically by their range his CI is still moderate, but depending on the scale you look at, it's within normal range.
