Floods and Banana Bread
Our New Years was quiet this year. Originally Dan was supposed to be in Seattle all weekend for work. Last year I went with him and it was so fun! I didn't feel like flying with a baby just yet so we stayed home. Lucky for us Dan got all his work done and squeezed in on an earlier flight so he was home Saturday night. We were officially parents and went to bed anyways. However I was up right around midnight anyways with Brooks so that counts right?
I was doing laundry and I heard rushing water and I thought to myself, 'It's just filling up for the rinse cycle....' but it sounded different. Thankfully my body reacted quicker than my brain and I got up immediately to go check and water was flowing everywhere! I ran to grab some towels and my phone and I'm calling Dan asking where the water shut off for the washer is then realize, duh just turn it off! Our laundry room/pantry has an exterior wall and the pipe froze so when it all melted it had no where to go but here. It didn't ruin anything and we got it cleaned up that day.
One night all of Dan's coworkers were going bowling after work at 9pm. We wanted to go so we decided to try and make it work. We did our bedtime routine and put him to bed at the same time we normally do, we just 'put him to bed' in his car seat. We decided if he wakes up, he wakes up, he'll probably want to party and we'll just roll with it. Brooks was so good though, we put the cover over his car seat with his white noise and he was OUT! It won't always be this feasible or smooth but it was cool it worked this time. Oh and I bowled terribly.
While my family in Idaho got pounded with record breaking snow, we had our own little Texas miracle. I introduce to you Texas Snow!
Obviously it didn't last long but we definitely had to show Brooks, so I dressed him in a warm outfit with a cute bear hat.
The only bad thing was that the hat didn't fit. I shoved it on there for the picture but it was a bit too snug. My poor baby has my big noggin! Sometimes it's hard getting clothes over his head and getting hats to fit. I was holding my friends' newborn the other day and looking at their baby I was amazed at how tiny she looked. She weighed close to the same as when Brooks was born but she looked so much smaller. Then Dan reminded me that the difference is that Brooks has a big head and that's what it was! Maybe that's why he hates tummy time, his head is too heavy haha!
This picture was taken on Sunday and we've been really proud of Brooks on Sundays. Recently my calling was switched a bit so Dan and I both teach 3rd hour but we try to alternate weeks. So I either take him with the 6 year olds or he takes him with the 12 year olds and we make it work. Brooks has been a champ, I think looking at all the people is fun for him.
Here are some extras from his growth photoshoots. And sometimes I'll just sit him in the chair and take pictures of him because he smiles a lot when he's able to 'sit up' by himself.
All our bananas turned at the same time.... banana bread!

That eyebrow kills me!
We've had a couple rounds of sickness in our house since Brooks was born. The first time I got a cold I tried my hardest not to give it to Brooks... but it was kind of impossible. He didn't get it bad at all though. Round two has been this past week which was worse than the first time. I got Brooks sick, then Dan, then I got sinus infection. I think Dan had it the worst and Brooks was only a teeny bit sick. He was very needy for a day or two. Thankfully we're all on the road to recovery now thanks to virtual doctors. Dan's company offers Dr on Demand where you can video chat with a dr. At first I thought it was a cool novelty but now that I'm a mom I can see how this is gold. Granted I only have one baby so I'm sure moms with more kids see the blessing it is! No going to a dr office, waiting with kiddos in tow. I chatted with a Dr. on my computer in my kitchen and a prescription was at my CVS down the road in 15 minutes, so cool! Obviously it wouldn't work for everything but it was so nice!
Everything else has been pretty normal around here, we're getting into a routine. Dan is in the start of busy season. Between work, scouts and being a dad he's pretty busy! I'm beyond thankful I married such a hardworking man. I know more than anything he'd rather be home with us but he busts his butt everyday for us. Speaking of Dan! I totally FAILED as a wife and forgot to share this. I mentioned before Dan won an awesome award at work which included a trip to Disney World but it was a week before my due date etc.etc. He didn't go, but still won the award. He volunteered over 300 hours being a scoutmaster during last busy season (Jan-April) and had the most hours in the company! So they interviewed him for their podcast episode! So cool. Some of you may have seen it on Facebook but if you didn't check it out!
Up next? My baby is just about 4 months! I'm so excited for his well baby check up in a couple weeks and then I'll share with you all his new tricks!
