A Week of Firsts & Birthday Week (27 & 28 week update)
Baby is as big as a:
Rutabaga
Total weight gain:
15 lbs
Maternity clothes:
Pants YES. Shirts, meh. I'm not breaking out of my shirts yet.
Sleep:
I feel him when I go to bed but he's not exactly keeping me up or awake yet. I definitely feel him stretching and his feet in my ribs. Surprisingly it really tickles sometimes?
Movement?
It is so fun to feel the baby move! My down time is spent with my hands on my belly waiting for him to kick again.
Best moment this week:
Celebrating my birthday! And the 4th of July!
Weird pregnancy moment:
So I did the glucose test and the experience was a reminder of college when I had to drink glucose water for a research project. It tasted like flat orange soda and I was kind of cranky because I was hungry. I was definitely happy when I was able to eat again and then was on my way. Three days later.... uh... I failed my glucose test! My nurse reassured me that sometimes really healthy women randomly fail and that a majority will pass the 2nd test. That means double the time and double the glucose in the drink. I'm not completely looking forward to it I just hope I pass!
Symptoms:
I think I've had heartburn for the first time? I thought it would feel differently but this is also very mild. The culprit? Pizza. It's a burning in my throat and when I swallow. I thought it would be more reminiscent of... I don't know.. vomiting? Ha! My feet have been swelling a tiny bit. I went to buy new flats and after walking around all day, my feet were not fitting into my regular size. I sized up so I would be comfy the rest of summer.
Food cravings:
Nothing different than the usual. Chocolate, milk, cereal, sandwiches, some spicy things (must be Dan's baby).
What I'm looking forward to:
My ultrasound with the specialist who will hopefully tell us that baby's ureters are normal and healthy! Aaaand I'm not exactly excited for the retaking of the glucose test, but I'm excited to pass it!
Beautiful rainbow after a storm
Then is was my birthday! My birthday fell on a Sunday this year so on Friday my coworkers were nice enough decorate and celebrate! Yes, that is a potato with a birthday hat on it.
Complete with inflatable monkey! How lucky am I? ;)
Because my birthday fell on a Sunday this year (thank you leap year) we celebrated on Saturday. We started the day at the Dallas Temple. Is there any better way to start your day? After that we ate lunch at a place recommended to us called Hopdoddy's Burger Bar and it was great. We really enjoyed it. A couple days before my birthday I always scour the internet and see what birthday freebies I want to sign up for. Because I knew we were going to be in Dallas I was excited to see that Sprinkles Cupcakes offer a free cupcake on your birthday! Sprinkles became famous after being on the TV Show Cupcake Wars. They also have a very talked about Cupcake ATM outside their shop. So after lunch we went to redeem my free cupcake and try these famous tasty treats. I got the chocolate peanut butter and Dan got the vanilla milk chocolate. They ended up looking exactly the same ha! Well long story short I thought it was delicious and Dan thought it tasted horrible. He thought it was a bitter bran muffin and I thought it tasted like heaven.
After that we ran some errands, looked at baby stuff and headed home to relax and get some house things done. For dinner we went out to Del Frisco's Grille, a place that Dan has been with his coworkers but I've never been. It was great as expected and then for my birthday present Dan took me shopping for some new shoes which I was in desperate need of. Best birthday! When we got home all of our neighbors were outside shooting off fireworks so we went out to join the party!
Sunday was my actual birthday and every so often is falls on a fast Sunday. In our church every first Sunday of the month we have the option to fast, or abstain from food or drink for 2 meals, and then donate the money we would have used for those two meals to our church to help the needy in our area. Fasting is something that goes back to biblical times and when coupled with prayer and a humble heart, can help you gain inspiration and see miracles in your life. With that being said pregnant women of course are not asked to fast which to be honest I was kind of excited because who wants to fast on their birthday...
At church I had my primary class guess how old I was and the first answer blurted out was, "THIRTY!" Later he said, "Can I change my answer? You made a weird face when I said thirty..." Oops! Then they ratted me out in singing time and made every one sing me happy birthday, they're so sweet and funny. We came home from church and relaxed, opened some gifts and cards then made a delicious dinner. Steak and potatoes is the meal I usually request.
We were so patriotic on Sunday. We love America!
Thanks mom, for the scarf! Speaking of which, this scarf came in a package which she sent my birthday gifts and also a ton of baby stuff! Cute outfits, diapers, a shirt for Dan, 4th of July decorations and treats. Thanks Mom and Dad!
I was given lotion, perfume, kitchen things (salad spinner, spatula, ice cream scoop), jewelry, blog book, other books, hymn and children songbook, cards and shoes. Thanks family!
New shoes! Ross has a good selection right now.
Don't judge me but these are CROCS. I can't believe I bought a pair of crocs but they look cute and are so comfy! My pregnant feet NEEDED them!
And these little gems.
AfterI burnt the crumb topping and scraped the top layer off with the crumb topping!
28 weeks! We are in the third trimester guys!
Beautiful rainbow after a storm
Last week Dan's mom was in town and it was so fun to see her again. We had everyone over for dinner one night to celebrate her and my birthday early. It was so fun! the next night everyone came over for pizza and swimming but mother nature had a different idea and started dumping a ton of rain! So it turned into a movie night and we went to a park when it stopped raining.
Alex helped me blow out my candles :)

They brought me breakfast from Boopa's Bagels and then we had chocolate cake later. They also went above and beyond and got me a Target giftcard. They know the way to my heart!

Not just similar but EXACTLY THE SAME
I am now that girl that has shoes matching her phone. I didn't even realize it until later! How embarrassing... (bad news, they broke and I returned them sad!)
Sunday night out neighborhood did their fireworks. We have prime viewing space in our backyard, we didn't even have to leave home! We hung out with out neighbors and watched the show. They were pretty darn good for a subdivision in rural Haslet. We saw fireworks one way but had lightning flashing behind us with a big storm that was rolling in. Right as we went to bed it just started pouring with loud thunder and bright lightning through the night. It was off and on but started up again at 4am! It was seriously a crazy storm with thunder so loud it woke me up multiple times.
For the 4th I was originally planning on sleeping in but then realized I needed to run to Walmart for some last minute pie making materials. Therefore I got up early to make sure I beat the swarm on people who go to Walmart on a holiday. For the first time in months it was actually COOL temperature wise outside than morning. Like maybe down to 70! It felt so nice.
Dan and I did the most American things on the 4th. Blew things up, ate apple pie and spent lots of money. Meet the new addition to our family.
Yes until we mount it we now have a BIG TV and leeetle stand. Note the 32" on the side that Dan has had since college. When you're wise with your money sometimes you can save up for things and buy something fun. I'm all for it so we can mount it and get it off the floor #babyproof
Then we came home and I made an apple pie. I even made the crust myself
Before crumb topping
After
I'm not trying to toot my own horn but I thought it turned out way good!
How far along
Baby is as big as a:
Eggplant (Dan's favorite!... not)
Total weight gain:
17 lbs
Maternity clothes:
I bought some maternity leggings and I want to live in them. I probably wouldn't have bought them if i didn't have birthday money because for this frugal girl, I thought they were a little much.. however I've worn them so much, they are so comfortable and are not see through that I'm still so glad I bought them. Thank you Target!
Sleep:
I've been sleeping well, maybe a little hot but I have been having weird dreams. Well to be honest with you, if you know me, you know I've always had weird dreams. Not sure if these are pregnancy caused or if I need to stop eating before bed.
Movement?
LOTS of movement! They don't hurt but sometimes they're strong enough to make me stop for a second.
Best moment this week:
Being able to see our baby again on ultrasound!
Weird pregnancy moment:
This isn't exactly weird but here's an update about how our appointments went.
1. 3 Hour Glucose Tolerance Test. I thought this drink would taste worse but it was the same which wasn't great but it could have been worse. I occupied the time by reading and looking at social media. They stuck me 4 times then I devoured the lunch I packed in my car. Results show that I passed with flying colors! What a relief
2. Ultrasound with the Specialist. I never thought I'd get so many ultrasounds. This one concluded the same thing we've seen previously with the dilation. Everything else anatomically checked out as perfect in the ultrasound. They want to continue to monitor it to make it stays the same or gets better. I'll see her again in 4 weeks.
3. Normal OB/GYN says I'm looking good, my weight & blood pressure are good and I'm measuring normal. He has a strong heartbeat and likes to kick the dopler.

Symptoms:
A tiny amount of swelling in my feet and fingers. I honestly think that it's 75% because Texas is so freaking hot and humid right now. Some lower back strain. LOTS of movement. They say around now is the time the baby will be most active and holy cow he was kicking me so hard last night! Once he starts running out of womb (see what I did there) I've been told the kicks won't be as strong? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Food cravings:
I really wanted a bratwurst on the 4th so that's what I got! Still the same foods I've enjoyed and always, fruit!
What I'm looking forward to:
We're starting to really clear out non baby things from baby's future room and are getting serious about what we want for his nursery. Trying to decide on a crib, strollers, car seats, nursery colors etc.
