This Week was Weird
A lot of strange or interesting things happened.
First off we went grocery shopping Monday night. Sounds normal right? WRONG. After picking up some things at Costco we went to Wal-Mart to get some extra cheap things so we can stick to our awesome budget this month. We practically have everything we need except for the produce and have spent the time and effort to find the best deal, when we hear over the loud speaker, "THERE IS AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. EVERYONE NEEDS TO EXIT THE BUILDING." At first I was like wait... really? But then they just kept saying it and everyone was leaving. I felt like I was leaving all my hard work when we left our cart full of food to wait outside in the parking lot. When we got outside two firetrucks were already there and they kept telling us to scoot back farther away. We found out there was a gas leak and I prayed no one decided to start smoking. I was kind of at a loss of what to do but Dan said we'd give it 15 minutes to see what happens. Luckily everything got cleared up and we got the okay to go back in. a Wave of relief came to me when I got my cart back, right where we left it with all our things still in it (adult problems right?). Hey, time is precious- we ain't got time to go find everything we just found in another store! Plus the fact that we most mostly all the food we need for the month for $60 made me do a meal planning & budgeting fist pump.

Because of the nature of my work, I usually err on the side of caution and don't share many stories (Bank Secrecy is important), even though I would love to! Maybe since our blog is now private, I may feel inclined to simple things like these ones!
#1 - I was working in the drive through on day and our bank is so cool that each lane has a TV screen where they can see and hear the banker that is helping them. This older man I was helping really thought I should change career paths. Just as I was saying goodbye and ending the conversation he goes, "Man little lady, you look great on TV!" He caught me by surprise so I laughed and said thank you, but he went on, "Your eyes look so blue!" I don't remember what I said in response, "You should be like a newscaster or something... I'm serious!" it was too funny! I'm don't know guy what so you think? Could I be the next Dee Sarton? ;)
#1.5 - A couple days late I had a lady exclaim how nice of teeth I have. "They're so white and straight!" I'm so awkward in these situations, because they usually catch me so off guard! "You're just so cute!" ohhhh haha thank you! It was really kind of her.
#2 - So these drive thru cameras on our end are adjustable for height. After I told a customer that I sent their receipt out and to have a good day I then realized that the camera was at the wrong angle and for that 3 seconds all they could see was my from my mouth and down. Hahah... how awkward can I be! Really! I realized after that they probably thought it was funny too... Well at least I hope they did.
#3 - One day as I was pulling up a joint account for a lady I was looking for her name in her husband's account and I accidentally said the employee's name who opened the account that was also listed. I get a response of, "Wait, Whose Carly*?" Woah... had to explain myself quickly on that one before she thought her husband was having an affair or something and had a bank account with another lady. (I had a mini freak out for possibly revealing private information. If her husband really had done that, that is not my information to give.) The two of us had a good laugh afterwards. Hahah oops..
*(name changed)
For the last couple of shopping trips Dan and I have been buying some jalapenos. Dan could eat them by themselves because he lives spicy stuff, but I'm a wuss and just easing into it. I can handle jalapenos with out the seeds. A couple days after our exciting shopping trip to Wal-Mart we had nachos for dinner. Dan cut up the jalapenos we bought and we had them with our nachos. Dan took a bite and was like hmm... these are stronger jalapenos. I took a small bite and didn't taste a thing! Hindsight I realized I had probably just swallowed it really quickly. Dan was like... wow these are actually really spicy. I was like really? and took a bit of another one with my nachos. Instant regret. Turns out we accidentally bought serrano peppers. They're hotter. And for me MUCH HOTTER. I was in so. much. pain. It was a minute panic until I could get milk and my mouth was on fire. Thanks Dan for pouring me the biggest glass of milk ever. For the next five minutes I had tomatoes or milk (or both) in my mouth at all times. The dairy and the acidity really helped cut down the pain. It was the worst! But now we can look back and laugh, I know deep down Dan really thought it was funny. And it is funny now... but I might had back handed him if he laughed at me in the moment. Moral of the story? I'm still a wuss and those peppers are hot!
At work on Friday we had a pink out to support some team members at ICCU and everyone else who is fighting cancer. It was pretty fun and out branch went all out to show support.
Some of us even dyed some of hair, had pink hair clips etc.
This is my team that I directly work with. All the Member Service Specialists (MSS = tellers), the Financial Service Officers (FSO = lobby staff), my assistant manager and my manager.
(minus 2 people who were absent)
Then a picture with our regional director and mortgage loan officer who are also in our building
Friday at work was probably the busiest it's ever been while I worked there. It was crazy but I like it. Most people aren't very frustrated to wait in a line at a credit union- at least I know I'm not. A credit union isn't fast food nor do members expect that from us which is nice but I like the challenge of helping people quickly but efficiently. Plus, I got a referral!
I am not paid on commission for our referrals but we do set goals to try to spread the word about how great our Credit Union is. Hey, if you're frustrated with you bank situation, come by just to see what we have to offer. You can have someone call you or send you pamphlets explaining our accounts. It'd be a win win for the both of us. Because we're a credit union we have more flexibility than big banks do. We never charge maintenance fees, we have no minimum balances on our free checking (that's why it's called free) and our overdraft charges are lower than what banks charge. Plus everyone who works there is so nice, it's ridiculous. Currently ICCU is giving away two jeeps- members and non members can enter to win so come on in to fill out a form to be entered to win.
After work I had errands I needed to run. Gordman's has had the cutest faux leather boots in grey, brown and black and they are $20! I've been dying to get them for about 2 weeks and then a 20% off coupon came in the mail and I new that was my invitation. They look like this
but in grey. I'm pretty stoked. Plus I had two 20% off coupons and gave it to a lady in line that looked like she needed a coupon. I think she when back and got more things because she had a coupon :)
Then I went to Costco. Costco on a Friday after work is always a bad idea, but I had put off getting tortillas for so long that I absolutely had to get them because we were having chicken tacos that night. Plus Dan and I really like the kind that come uncooked that you plop in the pan for 30 seconds. I got a huge bag of uncooked tortillas for $6. Woot. As I was walking through the store I hear over a loud speaker, "Hey you! We love pink shirts!" I was so focused to get tortillas that it shocked me and I stopped dead in my tracks (I was still wearing my pink shirt from work). I got called out by a samples stand to try some on their food. Out of all people, why me? Haha luckily it was good food so I was grateful for the snack.
I came home Friday and what do I find? The apartment cleaned. Dan is getting down to an art form now. Luckily because our apartment is so small it doesn't take very long at all. I cannot explain how amazing it is to come home after a super busy Friday to a spotless clean apartment. He is awesome.
He also surprised me and brought home a redbox for us! Now You See Me. I loved it! It was so cool! It's the first movie in a while that made me go, "NO WAY!" at the end of it. I'm sure some people thought it was predictable but I did not see the end coming, they totally had me!
General Conference was this weekend and man was it uplifting!
My favorite moments so far included;
- Sister Stephens and Elder Christofferson giving hope and encouragement to sisters in the church. I have never felt less in the church because I am a woman, but I know there are women who really struggle with it and I have empathy towards them. These talks further solidified my testimony of the role of women in the church and how this church is truly run by God, what He wants and in HIS timing.
- Elder Holland addressing mental and emotional illness. I personally have always realized that these are real and that medical along with spiritual help is needed sometimes but I know there are those out there, suffering and not who needed to hear from an apostle that it's serious and it's real.
- Sister Oscarson explaining to the youth the importance of being truly converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Listening to our modern day prophet Thomas S. Monson and his testimony of the restored Gospel.
I can't wait to listen to the rest of it! It's always uplifting and inspiring. Plus having orange rolls and cinnamon rolls is divine.
