February
February was a WILD month for us and everyone else in Texas. It started out normal with beautiful weather then the snowpacalypse hit and threw us for a loop that took a full week to recover from. My best friend had her baby shower for her 3rd so we ended the month on a high note!
Recently more construction is closing roads around my neighborhood causing there to be less entrances and exits. Combine that with all the trains and traffic has been AWFUL. I won't go out after 4 anymore, it took me 30 minutes to drive home from the park in our town. It's ridiculous.
Before all the snow came the weather has been warming up and the boys have LOVED being able to roam free outback.
Brooks also found that his sandals from last summer still fit which is great! He insists on wearing them with socks.
Brooks dressed himself for church and I just had to document it.
There were about 30 robins in our backyard and they were BIG and beautiful. I'm sure a lot of the died in the snow, they probably weren't expecting that.
I finally went and got Carson's birth certificate! Winning! It only took me a year. To my defense COVID closed those offices for a while, then we were quarantining and still decided how and when to go out etc. but we finally got it!
Carson has also discovered his climbing abilities and can climb on the table. One morning I had a headache so I laid down and kind of dozed off while the kids played. Suddenly Brooks is yelling, "Mom! Look!" and there's Carson, standing on the kitchen table.
Carson also dug an orange peel out of the trash and guarded it with his life. He ate most of it too, gross!
My boys!
They didn't want to smile
More on the climbing. I didn't think He could climb onto a 5 gallon bucket. I guess he just wanted some Dr. Pepper?
Also climbing on bookshelves
I made chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles! It didn't exactly go as planned, but the end result was delicious!
When the snow finaly did come one did not like the snow...
And one did! This was when we still had power so they played outside.
I made tiramisu with hot cocoa instead of coffee and rum extract instead of rum and it was delicious. so rich but delicious.
Then the power went out, breakfast in the dark.
Keeping warm and all of out extra water containers filled up.
Dinner in the dark. Sometimes it was hard to eat your food before it went cold because it was so cold inside.
Happy boy in the snow with friends!
Oh my gosh can you even with this blue marshmallow!! The sweetest!
I flooded my laundry room trying to thaw everything. Eventually got it thawed and working.
The snow we got was so dry and powdery you couldn't pack it but when it started to melt we could finally make a snowman!
This is how our kitchen looks all the time to keep Carson off the table.
Brooks got a special postcard from his Primary Teacher.
We bought a new washer and dryer! I am over the moon about this! The set we had bought from a friend of family like 7 years ago for $100 I think? I looked up the model number and they were made sometime in the 90's so probably around 30 years old. The dry was working fine but the washer kept stalling on the cycles and wouldn't finish. The last week we had them only the delicate cycle worked. We bought a maytag set from Costco. Nothing fancy but still such an upgrade for me! The fact that I can just click start and it washes without me having to do anything more is amazing! I feel these one clean better too. I love them!
Just like Texas to go from -2 to 70 degrees in a week. Had a fun lunch date with my boys at the new park!
I loved this shirt on Carson because I feel it really accentuates the belly!!
A floral arrangement I made for Tara's baby shower. Not too bad for never having done this before. We had a girls night at Olive Garden to celebrate her baby #3. It was the best night with friends and good food. Just what I feel we all needed after the craziest week!
I also ended up weaning Carson during the snowmaggeddon week. It was kinda of funny how it worked out but it worked! I was nursing him morning, noon and bedtime when he turned a month old. Then cut out the noon feeding pretty easily for two weeks. Then cut out the bedtime feeding for 2 weeks. That one was a bit harder, he'd sign 'milk' and be so whiny at night and I did every other day for a bit, also gave him cows milk (he's not a fan) or a small snack before bed. Soon he just started to forget about the bedtime nursing. Then when the power was out, all the snow was on the ground and all the things were happening I forgot to nurse him one morning and it kind of just happened naturally from there. Maybe once in the morning here. I actually fed him once in the middle of the night because I felt like he needed it even though he's been night weaned forever. It was kind of just once randomly every few days and then none! I love nursing my babies but I don't feel sad to be done, it feels right for him and me. Plus he eats almost all food in sight so no worries there either!
