Exploring Fort Worth
So I've been in Texas now for over a month! It's gone by really fast. That's mostly because I got a job quickly and real life kicked in again. I really like it here. I don't know why but I feel really comfortable here and it's very homey feeling. Living in Boise felt homey probably because I grew up there, but living in Rexburg or California did not. Maybe because I knew it was temporary it was harder for me to settle in? Now that we're until something drastically changes I feel like it's mine and I feel like I fit.
Dan and I went to Down Town Fort Worth to explore and look around. Our first stop was Justin Boot Outlet because they were having this special that I'd get a 40% discount because I work for Unity One. We thought, what a great discount so we went. I don't know why I wasn't expecting an authentic boot shop but in the heart of Texas, that's exactly what it was. Walls, and walls, and walls of boots. Expensive boots. It dawned on me that I was not at the Boot Barn in Idaho. This is the real deal with lot's of cowboy hat wearin' men here for some serious shopping. After taking a look around and seeing that everything started at $100 we decided we probably wouldn't wear boots that often to pay that much for them. It definitely was an experience for me though!
And I've also complied a list of things that I do and do not like about Texas, here ya go!
LIKES:
The ice cream, already told you about that! Bluebell is the bomb. Cookies and cream and Homemade Vanilla are wrestling for my favorite.
Gas prices, right now they're $2.44/gal. Crazy, right!
They opened up a brand new WinCo! Everyone else is like, 'What's a WinCo?"
Donut shops. There are so darn many! A lot of tiny hole in the wall places just called 'DONUT'. Usually it's a family that runs it and all the stores are completely independent even though they're all called 'DONUT'. Someone brought some into work and they're so good!
People are nice and they all say ya'll. My coworker asked me what I say in Idaho instead and I didn't have an answer! Haha uh... hey guys? or Just you all. Everyone says it around here so I'm pretty sure I will be too.
Being close to family that we haven't spent much time with. Being close to Jenny and Phil is awesome. Not only are they super cool, they're kids are so cute! We love hanging out with them and playing with their kids. I really haven't had the chance to really be an aunt to someone because there are my only niece and nephew and we've been so far away, but now that I'm here I think I love it!
NOT LIKES:
Apparently the police are very strict here about speeding. They WILL pull you over for going 5 over, even on the highway. I'm not speaking from personal experience but from the experience of 2 of my coworkers who got pulled over this week. I don't speed so I don't for see this being a problem but I'm just so used to 5 over still being in the 'safety zone' of an ok speed.
Traffic. I live 4.4 miles away from work and it takes me 30 minutes to get home. One night it took me almost 45 minutes and I couldn't go to something else I was planning to go to because of the traffic. There's only 1 way in and out of my work and the hardest part is that I have to cross under the highway. Everyone and their dog are trying to get on the highway and I'm just trying to go straight. I should get in the habit of finding good music to make it more enjoyable.
Lastly is roads. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the roads here. It's to the point where more than once I have started to feel car sick and gotten nauseous while riding in the car. And no, it's not Dan's driving. We've driven lots of miles together and that has never happened before. The roads aren't flat. When I drive them going the speed limit (usually 40) I feel like I'm on a roller coaster. The shocks in my car are going to have to be replaced a lot sooner I'm guessing. I almost feel the need to go slower because of how bumpy it is.
Anyways, I can only think of 3 things so far that I don't like so I think that's a pretty good list! There's a lot of things to love about Texas and I'm finding more everyday.
With Dan and I both working full time, I'm doing part time school, we both have callings in the ward (Elders Quorum Secretary, and YW Secretary) and we're on the committee for the ward Christmas party... we stay pretty busy! Hence why I haven't written in a couple weeks but I'm even more exciting for a break this coming week!

Next we took a stop at the building Dan works in and sees where we spend most of his time. Then we walked down to the Water Gardens. I had no idea what these were but when I got there, they were awesome!
It was super fun to go look around down town. We couldn't do all of it in a day so we'll have to go back for the next round! There are so many places to eat out and try around here, we've done our fair share of dining out. We tried, Whataburger, WingStop, Fuzzy's Tacos, Lee's Grilled Cheese, PotBellys... and we're going to try even more this week! Dan's parents are in town and his brother flys in on Wednesday. I'm so excited to hang out with all of them and eat good food! Who doesn't love Thanksgiving food?
I have also driven on my first toll road... and no it was not on purpose. Haven't seen a bill for that one yet...
