Unsolicited Advice

Image
When I have a baby (woah no one freak out, we're talking in the future here) I might be reallllly tempted to make them wear this whenever I go out. Sometimes I really do not like unsolicited advice, that is advice not asked for and often times from people I don't know. In my experience, most of the time when people give me advice when I haven't asked for it it can be hurtful. Sometimes it turns into one of these three things.  1. They think their experience is the only way something is going to happen, therefore they have the one and only right answer. 2. It turns into a memoir of just their experiences. They don't care about giving you advice, they just want to tell you all about their experiences almost in a bragging way. 3. It turns into a session about what they just KNOW you'll do and how you shouldn't do that. Here I'll make up some examples of each. 1. "Oh... well my wedding colors were yellow and grey, and don...

One Year

Image
Wow it does not feel like it's been a whole year! Today is the anniversary of my Grandmother's death. April 2011 we found out she was sick. The doctors told us she needed a liver transplant. As time went on the doctors discovered that the transplant procedure wouldn't be able to happen because of an enlarged vein in the area. I think it was around June that we all had the inevitable in the back of our heads. I had my gallbladder removed in the middle of June and I remember my Grandma calling me two weeks later while I was still recovering. I remember receiving a call from her out of the blue. She was calling me and asking me if there was anything  that she could to for me. I remember thinking to myself, "Grandma, you're the one who's sick! Compared to you I'm fine, I'm recovering. I should be asking you that question!" Again she let the offer stand, reminded me that she lived only a hour away and told me she loved me. Little did I know that would...

Tithing and Tennessee

Image
In June Dan went on an internship expedition with the school to Denver in hopes to find an internship. I don't know about other universities but at BYU-I you need an internship to graduate, depending on the major you might need two. The school set up this trip and set up interviews and meetings with companies potentially looking for interns in the near future. He had a wonderful time and thought he put a really good perception of himself out there. With his 3.97 GPA I wasn't worried about his ability to succeed. Some companies were looking to hire interns around September but there was one company Dan loved that told the accounting students they would get back to them soon. This is the one we were really hoping for! He loved the atmosphere and the company but we were so bummed and dumb founded when that call never came. We have no idea why, I couldn't even think of why they wouldn't love him but it was a blow to the ego and confidence especially when he felt inspired to...

20 Days of My Birthday

Image
I am spoiled and I have the best mother and fiance ever. I'm not exaggerating. My mother gave me a gift everyday for 20 days before my 20th birthday and my fiance picked up, wrapped and delivered the gifts. They're so sneaky but it was so fun and I felt so special! The first day started when Dan was in Denver for an internship expedition. While he was gone I wasn't able to talk to him very much because he was busy with interviews, dinners and marketing with companies. So when we called me randomly on that Thursday I was super excited to hear from him. He was like "Hey I need to you run over to my apartment really quick!" I asked for what as I made my way over there and he said he needed some security code the company had given him to get into the building. I didn't realize how ridiculous this sounded until afterwards. As I looked in the drawer where he said it was I found a card with the tag DAY 1 with my mother's handwriting. That was the star...
